Never mind being safe, she's angry. Angry that whatever magical bullshit the subway system has as its defenses, it did that to her. Angry that this city, whatever happened to this city, had the audacity to lead all of them around by the nose all month.

5/7 Mafuyu doesn't mind getting her hands dirty if it means producing results. She can be brash and impatient and all those things kids can unapologetically be, so that Kaz doesn't have to. So she sits back, somewhat satisfied with the promise that she'll be called on when he needs her... but not completely. "I can do anything. So if you need help now, you just got to say so."

12/12 "Oh-" The little pat on the head makes her freeze up. It's not a bad feeling; it's just surprise, because it's a clear sign of affection or praise or something that's in general good, that's so rare for her to receive even if it's a gesture commonly given to small children or cute dogs. "...I got it!" It's such a rare gesture, she definitely cannot let him down here, she decides as she grabs the pot and holds it under the sink faucet.

It's the sort of laughter she's never heard before, from anybody, and it's honestly sort of unsettling— but not as much as the praise that comes just as unexpectedly and wipes away all doubts of whether she made the right choice or whether all her efforts would be well received. All she can do is grin back, because there is absolutely nothing that makes her happier than being so openly appreciated like this, even if it's for a googly eye.

6/11 The poor rabbit starts ripping at the seams under Mafuyu's weight, but it's still holding up, the fabric sturdier when wet. Inch by inch, Shuji is able to drag Mafuyu close enough to shore that her feet touches the bottom and she can stagger up the rest of the way, whereupon she flops right on top of him, coughing up water and everything feeling like lead. "See...? You're a hero, Shuji."

She's kind of proud of him for that. If only she'd listened to his actual words and took the lesson to heart, but. Oh well.

5/18 IT'S PRAISE, bright and shining and blinding that she can barely look Yato in the eyes in disbelief. And then there's the icing on top of the proverbial (cup)cake that she is absolutely going to eat all by herself no matter how tiny she is and how many more times her size the cake is.

Yato used to be a good kid, she thinks, so it isn't entirely fair to say he's the one who rubbed off on her and not the other way around. So she starts by making sure she can still breathe and have all the air in the world to shout at Yato to her heart's content, keeping her chin ducked so he can't get a good grip around her neck. "Stuff like losing your hands!" Which would have made it easier for her to grab his wrists and wrench his arms apart with impossible strength that she definitely did not have the last time she scuffled with him. "and saying you weren't ever happy!!" Unforgivable. She staggers forward to jerk Yato off balance too, twisting around and trying to get the upper hand so that she faces him properly. "and eating birthday cake without me!!!!!" This is the worst transgression, and with that, she breaks free, and slams her hard ceramic face into his forehead.

There is zero hesitation with which she returns that promise, immediately breaking off into a run because she trusts Yu to follow, and she trusts Yu to trust her that she will keep her word. Right now, what's important to her is reaching what she lost, and it doesn't matter how they get there or who's the one to pick it up— in the back of her mind is the knowledge that it has to be Yu, or it'll be a repeat of this whole thing all over again; in the forefront of her mind is a single minded determination, knees pulled high when she runs, long strides, no care about fatigue against the water, and every time she slips on mud or stone, she has Yu held onto to pull herself back up.

10/1 That's what it's like, with a guard dog and cat and purposeful strides down the city streets as if she owned the place. She's never thought much of it, the fact that this is her own— her turf— nor that it might be "cool" doing anything with her, when most people just look sort of exasperated or defeated whenever she (usually literally) drags them around to do something together. 8/16 Ugh... Mafuyu hates having to be shielded like this. There'd be a rational part of her mind that tells her she should run, that going up against this thing is only going to get her killed, that she should swallow her pride and call for help when she needs to— she doesn't engage with reason often, but Zoro voices it and she's clearly peeved as she relents and takes out her phone, knowing this isn't the time to argue.
