CHARACTER: CANON SECTION
NAME: Mafuyu Kurosaki
AGE: 17
CANON: Oresama Teacher
NAME: Mafuyu Kurosaki
AGE: 17
CANON: Oresama Teacher
CANON HISTORY: here
1: Mafuyu is introduced as a delinquent who got caught fighting and was subsequently expelled from school. Her mother forces her to transfer to Midorigaoka Academy to live by herself in an off-campus apartment, and threatens to disown her if she is caught fighting again. Before her first day of school, she goes out to buy dinner and saves a stranger from being mugged by beating up some thugs; this stranger turns out to be Takaomi, her childhood friend and neighbor whom she didn't initially recognize, and she has been assigned to his class.
2: Mafuyu meets Hayasaka, who is something of a delinquent, and saves him from being beaten up by a group of five other delinquents. Because she'll be expelled for fighting, she keeps her involvement in the fight a secret from Hayasaka, and he becomes her first friend.
5: Hayasaka gets into another fight where he's outnumbered, and Mafuyu debuts as "Usa-chan Man," where she wears a rabbit mask to hide her face so she can fight without restraint, and urges Hayasaka to give up fighting.
6: Mafuyu and Hayasaka are made to join the Disciplinary Club by Takaomi, who explains the bet he's made with the school chairman: they are to double the number of applicants to the school over the next three years, and to do that, they must get rid of the delinquents at school who give it a bad reputation and scare away applicants. Working against them is the student council, whose president is the chairman's son.
7: Their first task in the club is to get rid of the gang leader, Okegawa, at the school. Mafuyu breaks the rabbit mask, so she cannot disguise herself as Usa-chan Man to fight, so instead wears a wig and boy's school uniform to become "Natsuo," who defeats Okegawa and breaks up the gang. Mafuyu and Okegawa later become friends after going to the movies and arcade together.
12: Mafuyu goes home and reunites with her old gang, who refuse to let her get involved with their gang war. While she initially feels betrayed and left out, she learns that it's because a new gang leader relying on her, the old leader, is a sign of weakness, and she and her gang reconcile as friends.
29: Yui is introduced as a member of the student council who challenges Mafuyu to a fight; after losing to Usa-chan Man, he joins the Disciplinary Club as a means of infiltration, but becomes close friends with Mafuyu and Hayasaka.
45: During the cultural festival, Natsuo and Okegawa fight off gang members from another school, instigated by another student council member, Kosaka.
52: Mafuyu and Hayasaka learn ninja techniques from Yui.
53: The third student council member, Houjou, attempts to break up the Disciplinary Club by refusing to give their papers the stamp for renewal. Usa-chan Man successfully steals the stamp from Houjou, but Houjou ultimately approves the papers because Hayasaka had written all their club activities out properly.
58: Usa-chan Man goes on a Christmas date with Hayasaka because he admires/hero-worships her.
60: Ayabe of the student council seeks out Mafuyu to fight, soundly defeating her in their initial battle. Mafuyu returns and wins after figuring out the secret to his strength; they become friends after Mafuyu eats lunch with him, learns about his family troubles, and takes him to his hometown to reconcile with his family.
67: Aki, a student from Mafuyu's old school, transfers to Midorigaoka, and Mafuyu is initially wary of him because he admires her as a gang leader and she doesn't want Hayasaka or Yui to know about her past delinquent life, but after she saves him from some thugs, he agrees to keep her secrets and joins the Disciplinary Club.
71: Student council member number five, Nonoguchi, captures Natsuo and Aki to learn more about the Disciplinary Club but the interrogation is interrupted by another school's gang leader who takes Nonoguchi captive. The Disciplinary Club goes after her, with Natsuo being the one to save Nonoguchi.
82: The second year students go on a school excursion, while Aki, a first year, stays behind and deals with the sixth student council member, Komari, whom he befriends.
91: Mafuyu's disguises for Usa-chan Man and Natsuo have been stolen, with a warning letter that her identity will be revealed if she doesn't quit the Disciplinary Club. Other members of the club have received similar pieces of blackmail, and the person responsible is revealed to be Yui, who was originally a member of the student council working against the Disciplinary Club. Mafuyu and Hayasaka confront him, making him realize that he enjoys his time at the Disciplinary Club and his friendship with them over his self-proclaimed duties as a student council member, and they welcome him back to the Disciplinary Club.
102: Momochi, another student council member, takes Hayasaka aside and erases his memories. When he is later confined to home arrest for fighting, Mafuyu, Yui, and Takaomi visit his home and learn about his past and Momochi's involvement in it, restoring Hayasaka's memories.
119: The last student council member to go up against the club is the president himself, Hanabusa. Disguising himself as Usa-chan Man, he disrupts the lives of the student council members and brings a bad reputation to the Disciplinary Club until Mafuyu unmasks him, learns about the reasons behind his plan, and decides to help him in achieving it. After successfully accomplishing his goal, Hanabusa, along with the other seniors, graduates from Midorigaoka and thanks Mafuyu for her involvement over the past two years.
(this is where most scanlation groups leave off (~ch.121), although the latest chapter released is currently ch.140, so the rest is vaguely summarized by memory from bits and pieces of translations I've seen)
At the start of the new school year, Hanabusa's sister enters as a first year student, and she is determined to do what her brother didn't and dispel the Disciplinary Club. She gets Takaomi to leave the school under the threat of falsely claiming sexual harassment, and the new teacher instated into Mafuyu's class is Maki, who initially appears unreliable and scatterbrained. Gang members from another school have been fighting with Midorigaoka students under the claim that Midorigaoka has been beating up their students, and Takaomi is shown to be working behind the scenes with the gang leader from the other school. Maki finds out, and it's shown that Takaomi knows recognizes him. Aside from unexpectedly knowing how to fight, Maki is also overly familiar with Mafuyu, while she does not know/remember him at all, and some digging into his past reveals that one of his listed addresses is near where Mafuyu used to live. In the latest chapter, Mafuyu, Yui, Hayasaka, and Aki return to her hometown to find more information of Maki and who he really is.
CANON PERSONALITY:
Even before being introduced to a life of delinquency (at the young age of six...) Mafuyu has always been excessively tenacious, bold, and self-assured, somebody who has little self-awareness but a great thirst for friendship that becomes something of a driving force in her life. Friendship especially is something she is starved for, starting from when she forced friendship onto her neighbor Takaomi when she moved in next door at six years old; Takaomi, being a delinquent at the time, picked her up by her hair and threw her across the street, breaking her arm, and yet Mafuyu came back day after day to play with him because he eventually played along, and there were no other children in the neighborhood. She is very eager to please people she looks up to most, namely Takaomi who she admires for his strength and for being the only friend she had growing up, going to extreme lengths just to hear praise from him despite putting herself in danger and enduring indoctrinated habits such as running on command, doing errands for him, sitting seiza and apologizing with dogeza in front of him, etc. From him, Mafuyu learned how to fight and went on to become the gang leader at her middle school and earned many followers by the merit of her strength alone. The gang members fear and respect her, but just as much, they tease and love her, coming together whenever she makes the trip back home to see them and including her into their family even after she quit being a delinquent. Her photo is also sometimes their cellphone wallpapers... But to them, she is somebody who always looks out for others and takes care of them, somebody they can trust with their lives and go to for help over anything, and it's for these reasons she is considered the leader, more than the fact that she had never lost a fight.
While she has this solid basis of support in her gang, she is distanced from the rest of the student body who fear and run away from her, either due to the high school punks who followed her around during elementary school or the unruly company she kept and led in middle school, and these negative reactions drive a deep seated loneliness in her heart due to her inability to approach "normal" people without scaring them away. She gets this chance when she's forced to switch schools, going through great pains to hide the fact that she used to be a delinquent and pretend she's a normal girl who is weak and helpless. Regardless, much of this falls through as the series progresses due to her strong convictions to help people and fight for what she believes is right, leading her to create different identities and disguises to preserve her image... as well as the fact that she'll be expelled if caught fighting again. Lying in this way eats away at her, but an even greater fear is the thought of losing the friends she's made when they find out that she used to be a punk, and so she continues the lie, though she throws it all aside when a friend is in danger or when somebody finds out and assures her they don't care.
She latches onto her friends and places her full trust in them, especially once realizing they are a good person at heart despite appearances, just as she is once people look past her delinquency, and tends to gravitate towards people who come to like her back, eager to please. Many of the friends she makes are of the atypical sort, including the gang leader of her high school who she discovers to have a softer side, an enemy in an opposing club that dealt Mafuyu her first ever defeat in a fight and later becomes a big brother figure to her, and the student council president who her club goes against for two years once she learns the reasons for his actions and decisions. Aside from making friends out of enemies, she is also betrayed more than once in the series by some of her closest friends (leading to serious consequences such as her expulsion from school and breaking up the school club she is a founding member of), and yet Mafuyu forgives easily and puts the past behind her when given a sincere apology and realization of wrongs, because she believes in people and takes their words at face value without thinking of ulterior motives.
Rather than fighting for enjoyment and seeking it out, Mafuyu fights when problems are brought to her or she sees somebody in need of help, and holds certain values when she fights, such as fairness in one-on-one combat (although she will go up against a dozen others without batting an eye) and not bringing weapons to a fist fight (she will also jump in here with complete disregard to her own safety). The two alternate personalities she makes highlights some of her ideals. "Natsuo" is her disguised as a boy, somebody strong enough to defeat the current gang leader at the time and is described to have a surprising amount of impact despite being so short and ill fitting of the image of a gang leader, mirroring her as a girl leading her former gang and proving that appearances don't matter. In her brief time as the leader, Natsuo creates two rules: go to class, and don't fight with uninvolved people. She doesn't care for much for what gang life entails, particularly indiscriminate fighting and territorial battles, and instead wants to preserve the camaraderie that is something she recognizes to be a positive driving force like it was for her. "Usa-chan Man" is her donning a rabbit mask, a masked superhero who fights for justice and defends those who cannot fight back, stepping in to aid friend and foe alike because her identity is hidden and she can freely act her beliefs, not expectations. In both these identities, as well as her own, Mafuyu fights out of necessity, to protect and defend others, because she is in a position to act and has the capabilities to do something, and by taking problems onto herself, she can keep the peace.
Despite all the fighting mentioned above, Mafuyu is like... 90% childish and carefree by nature, only becoming serious when she is fighting for something she believes in, physically or verbally. Which happens a lot in the series because everybody's a punk. The rest of the time, though, she's viewed by others to be undisciplined and foolish, with her priorities being fun times and good food, very annoying in her tenacity and loud in her boldness, an unrestrained energy that's largely due to her environment growing up where being forceful and lawless is the norm. She loses her mind over pretty girls and normal high school friend things like cafes and purikura because she never got the chance to do these things before, writes flowery pen pal letters with outdated terms and phrases she doesn't understand but uses anyways because she thinks they sound cool, and is carefree, open with her emotions, quick to anger but quick to put things behind her as well, often acts without thought much of the time, and gets into other people's business especially when it involves justice/friendship/love/peace/etc. In general, she is honest and straightforward, and in her own words, if there is something she wants and it's right in front of her, she will simply reach out and take it, and that's the simplicity with which she lives much of her life.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Fighting: In middle school, she used to be a gang leader, with considerable strength and endurance to back it up, never having lost a fight until she entered high school. She was able to knock out the current gang leader with one punch, survived jumping out of a multiple story window and brushed off the pain just by telling herself it doesn't hurt and willing it away, and can withstand much more damage than other fighters shown in the series. Her fighting style is described as being very efficient with no wasted movements, and some specific techniques she's shown to use include ukemi to recover from a fall, deflecting incoming blows to waste the other person's strength, how to escape from bound ankles and wrists, etc. While she's shown fighting with mostly her fists and legs, she used to own a wooden sword and brass knuckles and likely knows how to use weapons as well. She's learned some ninja techniques such as mizugumo to walk across water, and weapons such as the shuriken.
- Memory: Mostly it's just short term memory, but she's shown to have memorized phone numbers after a single glance, the names of every person in her class, and entire textbooks word for word (although there is zero understanding).
- Morse code: It's a hobby... she can use and understand it with ease.

AU AGE: 16
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: brown hair and brown eyes (canon grey hair and purple(?) eyes... the mangaka can't decide on an official eye color between grey, brown, blue, purple, green, etc. so I went with purple eyes because that's what the most recent colored art uses)
AU NAME: Mafuyu Kurosaki

PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: brown hair and brown eyes (canon grey hair and purple(?) eyes... the mangaka can't decide on an official eye color between grey, brown, blue, purple, green, etc. so I went with purple eyes because that's what the most recent colored art uses)
AU HISTORY:
- Born in Recollé and has lived here her entire life, although she remembers trips outside the city during summer/winter vacations to visit family.
- Immediate family includes her mother, father, pet rottweiler named Chicken Nugget, orange tabby named Orange Creamsicle; extended family includes Yato (cousins on her father's side).
- Her mother dropped out of college to take care of her when she was younger, then later got a job as a sales clerk at the Towers once Mafuyu was old enough to play outside with friends her age. Her father is an office worker trying to work his way up, so he puts in long hours. Her parents had her when they were both young and unprepared, so her childhood was a learning experience for everybody, namely a lack of discipline and structure that gave Mafuyu a lot of freedom to do as she likes, but less than optimal amount of parental involvement in her life that persists even now with two working parents.
- She was very outgoing as a child, always running around outside trying to find people to play with in the neighborhood or parks, but she also tended to play a little roughly (she got along well with Yato when they were younger, but they play fought a lot and that led to... actual fighting... in how she learned to interact with others...)
- Up through elementary school, she did well in class only because the emphasis wasn't on academics yet, but middle school and later high school had her increasingly adverse to sitting still, listening quietly, and paying attention when she would rather be out doing other things, so she started skipping classes more and more often as her interest in academics plummeted.
- Became one of those punks that hangs out together during school hours, got into tussles and in trouble at school from time to time when she gets caught fighting, but mostly it's just poor attendance and bad grades that's on her record. Her parents are at a loss for how to discipline her properly, but she's almost 18 and will be kicked out of the house in two years... just gotta survive these two years... No, it's because she hasn't caused any serious problems yet (jail, expulsion from school, fights bad enough to require hospitalization, etc.) that there hasn't been many direct interventions, but there's been some efforts to curb her energy expenditure
- These include school clubs she is not an official member of but gets involved in for fun (soccer, baseball, theater, etc.), and youth programs designed to keep problem children busy and off the streets
AU PERSONALITY:
- Instead of being thrown into gang life as an elementary schooler, Mafuyu chose it on her own accord when she was in middle school, largely for the same reasons of camaraderie and being able to goof off instead of sitting in class. Without a (delinquent) role model/slave driver, however, she is only an average, scrappy fighter and doesn't have the same reckless lack of fear in the face of danger or unshakable confidence in her strength. She was never a gang leader and never had the responsibilities of taking care of others, nor has she fostered a particularly strong bond with other delinquents at her school, so at this point in her life, it's still very possible to break away from delinquency and clean up her life. But that's no fun, and she doesn't believe she has the intelligence or attention to make it through school, so she has no current plans to change anything here.
- Since she had a relatively normal life up until middle school, she was able to actually make friends and keep them despite her current behavior, because they've gotten to know one another somewhat and they aren't scared of and automatically run away from her, so she isn't as desperate for friendship and doesn't know crippling loneliness. This is also attenuated by the fact that she lives at home with her parents and a pet dog, as opposed to living by herself in an off-campus apartment in canon. But without close friends she would die for and who would fight for her, she doesn't know to rely on others very well, and so is very independent and takes charge whenever she can as opposed to trusting others to protect her.
- She has no past to hide or reason to lie about being a delinquent, so there's no need for disguises and she can and does fight freely. She does't really pick fights, but if the opportunity presents itself, she will charge in and duke it out instead of trying to think of another method to keep the peace.
- Knows how to use a cell phone... in pre-series canon, Mafuyu's only registered number was her home phone and she never filled out her profile picture/name/email/etc. because she didn't bother reading the instructions. She can also cook more than just instant cup noodles, though it's limited to simple things like cold sandwiches and microwavable pizza rolls. Still can't swim.
